"Every adventure supplies new inspiration for artistic expression, content and process. I believe in the immortality of art & collaboration. With so many stories to tell, there’s no reason to stay in one place." - becky beamer
Inequity is the connective tissue in my research that proves to redefines borders, preserve cultural identity, and support social justice issues.
My artistic practice reflects a multi-disciplinary background in documentary film, photography, book arts, and multimedia installations. My research and creative practice occur at the intersection of 3 growing and imperative fields: social justice, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and aesthetic obligation. Progress towards new knowledge must be unrestricted by conventional expectations and labels. The story dictates the medium. Necessity, budgetary constraints, and considerations of the target audience define the medium. Mediums include photography, academic text, podcasts, documentaries (short and long), book art, or multi-faceted installation exhibitions. While I cannot predict exactly how my work will evolve or the final medium, there is a commonality in the methodology. My research process mirrors the rigor and logistics necessary for broadcast television production, embedded in my muscle memory from 16 years of professional experience.
My work always begins with research and environmental immersion. I examine local culture to determine underreported narratives and areas of debate, thus articulating an exact question. I gather narratives, physical materials, and books. Then, I reflect on that research through various expression methods and materials.
We are many cultures united in an intense conversation.
